John's Story

About Damqar

Meet Our Founder, U.S.M.C. Sergeant John Bacon

John Bacon had to learn to fight for what he wanted at an early age. Instilled with values of independence, discipline, and a can-do attitude, he enrolled in the U.S. Marines in 1965, with a successful career that included being shot down in a helicopter three times, breaking his nose on a machine gun, and crashing in a minefield during the Vietnam War.
These pivotal experiences shaped John in myriad ways that still carry into his life and business endeavors today. Particularly, they instilled a can-do spirit centered around a core value of discipline, which he personally defines as: “Discipline is having a goal and accomplishing that goal by figuring it out.” Today, it is precisely the ability to stay level-headed and committed to the mission at hand that has helped John across his entire career.

“Whatever It Takes” isn’t a tagline. It’s our mission.

OORAH’s name was chosen to honor the U.S. Marine Corps with a tagline of “Whatever it takes!” However, unlike most companies: it’s not simply a tagline. It’s a way of operating that can be felt in everything the company does. As John says: “We will do whatever it takes to get the job done.” Today, this commitment to superior service is what OORAH showcases as a trusted partner for government agencies. Through an array of superior products, services, and concierge-level support from the private sector, John Bacon and his team are committed to living their military ethos every single day.

Our Commitment to Service starts with Our Founder

After leaving the military, John entered the world of sales with a successful decades-long career built on the backbone of his relentless entrepreneurial attitude. When it came time to retire, he welcomed the opportunity for a new chapter of his life, but it didn’t last. As someone who is wired to contribute, he took several positions post-retirement.
Increasingly, John recognized a pressing need for distribution products and services, including hand sanitizers, masks, and custom cleaning supplies. Selling hand sanitizer from the truckload, he recognized there was an opportunity in the marketplace to capitalize on the needs between government agencies and the private sector.
After meeting his business partner and crafting a vision for how they could fulfill this need, OORAH Distribution, LLC was officially born.
